Search Engine Optimization - Fundamentals
Optimizing a website for search engine requires you to first understand the underlaying concepts about SEO that I call as Fundamentals. As you know that SEO is one of the things which can bring good amount of traffic to your website.
Please note that the explanation is purely based on my ongoing experience of optimization of my website. Please carefully read it and use it as a guide line.
First thing you should understand about SEO is that the techniques used in SEO works and revolves around the contents of a web site. Your efforts to increase page rank for your website should be centered around your website contents.
We are going to discuss and define following fundamental concepts necessary to optimize a website for search engines in a right manner. Please note that we are just discussing about SEO using contents. We are not going to discuss other techniques to bring traffic like social bookmarking, article writing etc.
Search Engine: Think of a search engine as an intelligent program which goes through your website page by page and parses text blocks. It collects and indexes words for each page. The most used words are called as Keywords. The information is stored into the global database which also contains information from other websites around the world. The Search Engines crawls (goes through each web page) periodically or upon submission of our Website URL to it.
Keywords: As I said keywords are the most used or repeated words on your web page. Before writing anything for a particular web page you should first make a small research on the most useful keywords for the topic used by people.
Page Title: A page title describes your Page Topic in a single sentence so it is really important to write it properly. It is the Heading for your web page which a person who is searching through search engine sees first of all. It must contain at least one to two most used words (Keywords). You can use Keyword Density Checkers available online which goes through your web pages and shows most used keywords on your web page. Those keywords should be neatly integrated or used into your Page Title which will increase your Title’s Relevancy with the Page Topic.
Page Description: A Page description is like a short summary about the Page Topic. It briefly describes what the topic is all about. It should be written into two to three sentences which properly uses the most used words (Keywords). The page Description should be very much relevant to the Page Topic and The Page Title should be relevant to the Page Description. The first line of Page Description should contain two to three keywords which is sufficient to make it relevant.
Page Topic: This is the key area of your web page which should be written in such a way that it is full of keywords or most popular words. Please remember not to use too many keywords which will make your topic testless. The sentences should speak the action instead of ability. For example, If your Page Topic is about a software which cleans disk space then first two lines of the topic should be something like this.
Disksweeper is a free software which helps you to clean unwanted junk and temporary files from your PC. You can instantly get rid of all the leftover and temporary files.
Now if you observe, we have used Clean instead of Cleans and get rid instead of gets rid of. The word Clean speaks the action where Cleans speaks the ability of software. People like to read and see what they can do to solve their problem rather than what a piece of software can do for them.
This is just an example of how you can properly use keywords to improve your website contents for Search Engines.
Uniqueness: For a search engine, Uniqueness of the page contents is one of the important things in order to be considered higher in search results. If you scrap or copy-paste contents from another high PR site then it is rarely possible for your website to get higher in search results. So please try to keep your website contents absolutely unique, fresh, mistake free and of high quality.
For now, that’s all.
I will share my experience with SEO and other topics as and when I go through it.

Cheers !
